About this idea

he Everly Collective builds community wealth through three connected practices: curating social enterprise (scouting, incubating, and connecting mission-driven businesses — especially ventures owned by women and entrepreneurs of color), stewarding community land ownership (land trusts, shared equity, and cooperative real estate that prevent displacement), and designing equitable economic development with residents, foundations, and anchor institutions. Every engagement follows the same arc: listen and map community assets, design the right ownership vehicle, capitalize and launch it, then transfer governance and equity to community hands. We’ve already modeled how this works in three kinds of Michigan places: a rural county like Cass, where an agricultural land trust and grower cooperative keep farmland and food dollars local as farmers retire; a small city like Highland Park, where vacant parcels move into a resident-governed land trust anchored by a storefront enterprise hub; and a county-scale strategy like Kalamazoo, where a succession pipeline converts retiring owners’ businesses to employee ownership. Each scenario is built on that community’s real Census data — income, poverty, homeownership — because ownership gaps are measurable, and so is closing them.
